Senior Art Exhibition

Pupils from Dulwich hosted their own art exhibition this week. Based on work from portfolios put together for entry to senior schools, this was the first chance for children to exhibit their work to a wider audience. Reflections on the topic title ‘Twist’ each art senior came up with their own interpretation using a variety of media including embellishing, collage, photography and pencil sketching. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas with visitors to the exhibition, which was very well attended.

The Exhibition marked the launch of a bursary award scheme organised by the school in conjunction with the Cranbrook Art Show. The Award will be made to a promising art student from the local area who will be given the chance to exhibit at the Cranbrook Art Show in November alongside professional artists. The scheme will be open to local students of sixth form age who are studying art and will be made at the discretion of the Art Show committee.

Headmaster Mr Paul David commented ‘ It was wonderful to see our pupils embrace the opportunity to showcase their hard work, and we have had great comments from visitors to the exhibition about the high standard of the work on show and range of talent we have here at Dulwich. I have been particularly impressed with the way our art seniors have shared their ideas with the younger children, inspiring them to believe that they too are capable of producing such wonderful work in the future.’

Mr David continued ‘The Cranbrook Art Show has always been a highlight in the town’s calendar, and I am delighted that Dulwich Prep Cranbrook is able to provide a platform for a young student to showcase their art to a wide audience. The community art award at the Cranbrook Art Show will provide an excellent opportunity. ’

Held every November in the Vestry Hall, the Cranbrook Art Show showcases a range of artists both locally and further afield. Over the last 23 years, the Cranbrook Art Show has developed into one of the most popular art events in the South East. The artwork is carefully selected from a number of of professional artists and the result is a fascinating and eclectic mixture encompassing painting, sculpture, art ceramics, jewellery, and textile art.

Dulwich Prep School has an excellent reputation for art, with an astonishing 7 major art scholarships won to a host of prestigious senior schools this year alone. All children from aged 3 are involved in imaginative projects ranging from sculptures using foraged materials, to ceramics and animated films created on iPads.
