Minutes of Last Meeting
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE FRIENDS OF DCPS In SBG's absence, Pauline chaired the meeting RESIGNATION Owing to other commitments, Dineli has had to resign from the Committee with immediate effect. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed. FEEDBACK YEARS 7 & 8 FIZZ AND QUIZ EVENING Donna felt the evening had been successful. Not sure of final profit - Liz would clarify before the next meeting. The suggestion that Tutor Groups could be used as teams next year was not popular with the children. TREASURER Liz apologised for not circulating a breakdown of income and expenses. She said the Fireworks' Evening had made a profit in excess of £2,000 which was significantly higher than previous years and may be due to increased ticket prices and the sale of candy floss and popcorn. A cheque for £16,145 had been presented to the Evelina Children's Hospital. The balance of £6,000 would be paid to them after Easter. The November edition of the Advertiser made a profit of about £400. Liz said that there was currently about £23,000 being held in the current and deposit accounts at Lloyds. The latter only gave 2.4% interest. There was discussion about how more interest could be earnt. It was agreed that Liz should speak to the Bursar. FUTURE EVENTS YEARS 5 & 6 FIZZ AND QUIZ - 26 January 2008 Julie Griggs organising this year. Donna said she ready and had lots of volunteers to help.LOWER SCHOOL DISCO - 29th February 2008 Donna organising with Tash and Pauline shadowing. Rae, Carol-Ann and Suzi would be there on the evening. Donna asked Annabel for her glow-stick contact - she would e-mail it. WALK and TEA Annelise Webb had kindly offered her bluebell woods for the walk. There was discussion about the best day as she felt there was no guarantee that the bluebells would be out on Sunday 27th April. It could be held over the following Bank Holiday weekend. It was agreed to defer any decision until the next meeting. Annelise asked if NSPCC walkers could be in the woods at the same time and there was no objection to this. She said dogs would be welcome on leads and that walkers should keep on the paths. Annelise also asked if she could borrow the Nash House gazebos. NASH HOUSE DISCO Justine confirmed that this was in hand and she had lots of volunteers to help on the day. SUMMER FAIR - Sunday 18th May 2008 A meeting of the sub-committee would take place at the end of January. Caroline Hornsby had asked Sal to find out what stalls staff were willing to run. It was agreed outside the meeting that the Mixed Generation Tennis Tournament would not be held in 2008. EVENT FOR PARENTS Pauline ran through a number of options:
LEAVERS' BALL - Saturday 5th July 2008 Camilla said she was getting a team together to organise the Ball and asked if the Friends would give a donation towards it. It was agreed to give £500 which was the amount promised last year. Camilla asked Liz if she could provide her with a breakdown of costs. SUMMER SWIMMING Camilla is getting the swimming off the ground and looking for a young person (NPLQ trained) who would run the pool in the Summer. If the Committee have any suggestions, please could they get in touch with her. She asked Sal to put an appeal for lifeguards in the newsletter. HEADMASTER'S REPORT UPPER SCHOOL FORM REPS MEETING - the first meeting would take place this week with Roger Kidney and Alison Eckersley. RETIREMENTS - Jenny Lewis (Registrar) and Sue Allen (Girls' PE) would both be retiring at the end of the term. As they had both been at DCPS for longer than 10 years, Stephen asked if the Friends would write a retirement letter. ANY OTHER BUSINESSSuzi Hinge asked if the Friends could do something in memory of Harrison Horrell. His parents had both been great supporters of the Friends over the years. After discussion, it was suggested that the Friends donate a cup to the school in Harrison's honour, perhaps music or sport. SBG would write to the Horrells asking of they were happy with this idea.
