Boys' Boarding in The Lodge
The Lodge is the boys’ boarding house at DCPS, where boys aged between 8 and 13 (Years 4 – 8) can be weekly, or part-time or temporary boarders when boys stay for one or more nights – sometimes on the same nights each week. The Lodge sits in a corner of the grounds, slightly away from the main school buildings, which gives the boys the feeling of ‘coming home’ at the end of the school day. It is homely inside and boasts a large common room with pool and table tennis tables, TV and video and plenty of floor cushions to relax on! There is also a smaller sitting room for boys in need of a little peace and quiet. There are six dormitories with three bunk beds in each, and all are individually decorated. Boys may also bring posters, photographs, etc. to make their part of the room their own. There is a large kitchen, where snacks can be made, and where the boys’ laundry is done. The bathroom contains four cubicle showers and two cubicle baths, a wash basin area and separate toilets and urinals. There is a private telephone box for the boys’ use, and internet computers on which the boys can carry on with school work and contact their families via e-mail. Computers can also be used for games during free time. Outside the Lodge there are 8 tennis courts, 3 cricket nets and acres of ground for football, cycling, etc, so there is always plenty to do! Mrs Montgomery is the Housemother, and she runs the house with three House Tutors, three Gap students, and two Matrons, to care for the boys 24 hours a day. Mrs Montgomery lives with her children and animals, at the end of the Lodge, so there is a real feeling of belonging to a large family. A typical day could be as follows:
Mrs Montgomery deals with all domestic matters – laundry, mending, visits to the doctor or dentist, hair washing and cutting, buying uniform where necessary, pocket money, travel arrangements etc. - with the help of the Matrons. She is always happy to see or speak to parents at any time. |
